I rolled over in bed when I heard my door being yanked open. I quickly noticed that it was my sister who had disturbed me. She said “Brit you better get out of bed, the boys are here and they brought flowers.” I groaned as I slowly slid out of bed, barely landing on my feet. I coughed violently and my lungs gasped for air. I silently pulled a baggy sweatshirt over my head and walked out into the den. I came into the room and saw my cousins Zac, Caleb, and Boone, and my friends Tyler and Cody. As I approached, I saw a bouquet of pink tulips and a smile formed on my tired face. They were gorgeous and coincidentally my favorite flowers. I curled up on the couch and stared at the beautiful bouquet that meant more than flowers to me. It was a thoughtful gesture from people I love saying “Get Well Soon!”
For the past months this recession has impacted all of us in some way or another. When we look around we can see the effects of our changing world. People are losing their homes all around us. Many people are being laid off from the jobs that they have held for more than ten years. At this point in our lives we can no longer feel safe at the jobs we used to be confident in. The time we have put in now means nothings.
Our society is in over its head and I don’t know when we will pull out of this. I think things are only going to get worse before anything gets any better. Eventually our economy will pull out of this recession. In the mean time business is only getting worse, and more stores are closing down everyday. In my opinion, I hope we are able to get through this before our economy crashes and we find ourselves in another Great Depression.

Back In The Bowl
As I slowly walked to the front door of our home, I felt my heart jump in my chest. My grandparents were never really around much. They never spent the time to share in our family’s good times. They lived six hours away and rarely made the trip to Springfield, even if they did come down, they never stopped by.
My “Grandpa Wagner” didn’t really like us much. He neglected to see the importance of family. My “Grandma Lou”, on the other hand, loved to visit us and wished she could come more often. She was a big family person. She would visit whenever she had the opportunity.
Today was our day. My Grandma Lou and I were baking together and nothing in the world could be better. I was two small years old and lived for days like these.
I quickly opened the door and in less than a moments time I was in my Grandma’s arms. She smiled down at me and I took in the beautiful look of it. She was a small lady. She was not tall yet not short, with chestnut colored hair and deep brown eyes. Her face was soft and her complexion was nothing but love. To me, she was perfect.
A short time later we had started to bake. We were making Chocolate chip cookies today. I love chocolate chip cookies. Gramma turned to oven to 375 degrees and then turned to pull out the cookie ingredients. I sat on the counter-top, watching. I was too short to reach most of the ingredients so I decided to just wait.
She added all the substances to our mixture and carefully measured them out. Finally it was time to stir. This is where I got to help. With a spoon that I could barely grip, I moved my arms in a circular motion over the big, white bowl.
As I stirred, I longed to taste the luscious, brown dough. Unfortunately I knew better. One of the few rules my Gramma was really strict about, was that we weren’t supposed to eat while we were baking.
It was tempting, I carefully weighed my options. Suddenly Gramma Lou turned her back and I seized a handful of mocha colored dough. I shoved it into my mouth and my hand flew behind me. As my grandma turned to face the counter once again, she quickly spotted my bulging cheeks. It was with guilty eyes that stared back at her. She quietly gasped “Brittany no!”
I felt ashamed and I could no longer bear it. With a deep breath, I spit the dough back into the big, white bowl! Gramma Lou shrieked and she covered her mouth with her hands. I guiltily looked up, as my gaze traveled upward I stared straight into a black and grey video camera. My mother, Laurie, had recorded the whole incident! We still have that recording , haunting me about the days I spit the dough back into the bowl. In the end my grandma shoveled out the dough that I had previously spit into bowl. We baked the dough and everyone enjoyed the wonderful chocolate chip cookies.
On a regular basis I carry many different electronic devices. These devices include: A Cell Phone, an I-Pod, and also a digital camera. Many of the modern devices help us to interact with our friends regularly.
For instance, my cell phone helps me to stay in contact with my friends every day. No matter where we are, are what we’re doing, we can always stay in contact with either calls, or text’s.
The I-Pod helps me to stay up-to-date on our popular music groups/musicians. My I-pod also helps me to concentrate. When I am in a busy and loud classroom, it is very beneficial to me, and helps me to get my work done. When I am having a bad day, this seemingly simple device can also draw my attention to something else and cause me to forget my worries.
Also, my digital camera helps me to capture the moments and times that mean the most to me, with all the people that I care about. It helps capture all of the times that, without this piece of technology I am sure that I would have forgotten some of the very special times in my life.
Most of the time when I learn new a new technology it is either at school or from a manual. I have learned how to use many different types of technology from the teachers right here at Thurston high. Many people believe that manuals are no use, and do not bother to use them. When in fact, they are very helpful in our abilities to learn how to use the products.
